Night Time Economy
Night Time Economy Longford
The Night Time Economy refers to the diverse, social, cultural and economic activities occurring during specified evening and nighttime hours. It balances the needs of the inter-related communities that co-exist to bring it to life and create a special sense of shared space. A vibrant night-time economy thrives, from 6pm onward with a variety of activities that cater to all ages at varying stages of the evening and night-time hours, supported by effective transport and a compact public sphere.
The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media established a multi-agency taskforce that developed the Night Time Economy Taskforce Report. The report aims to create a diverse and dynamic nighttime economy, to address challenges with licensing, planning, safety, transport, regulations, and diversifying night-time spaces.
A key recommendation was the establishment of Night-Time Economy pilot programmes with the appointment of night-time economy advisors. Longford's Night-Time Economy Advisor was appointed in 2024.
