UR Impact

UR Impact

The goal of UR Impact is to create an Integrated Action Plan (IAP) that provides an evaluation of the social impact of urban regeneration programs on the territory. The IAP will be realised and implemented with an integrated approach, which will involve the cooperation and participation of local stakeholders. By prioritising social impact, with a focus on community involvement, urban regeneration actions are rethought by placing citizens and their social, economic and environmental wellbeing at the centre of the processes. It also allows for an increased sense of belonging and civic participation.

The IAP focuses on the town of Ballymahon which faces a high level of deprivation and services for social support (Family Resource Centre and Day Care Centre) are housed in aging buildings that are no longer fit for purpose.

The vision for the project was to focus on delivering the Pobal le Cheile regeneration project, which redevelops the former convent and old boy’s school into a Family Resource Centre, Day Care Centre, Youth Reach facility and enterprise space. The overall vision is to create a connected, supported community that people are proud to live in.

In the delivery of this, the project aimed to investigate the feasibility of re-activating a Men’s Shed through public meetings and visits to existing sheds, culminating in a public meeting in November 2025, bringing together members of the community and local men’s sheds, creating an opportunity for the local community to learn about establishing their own men’s shed.
