Town and Village Renewal Scheme Funding 2021 

In 2021, Town and Village Renewal Scheme (TVRS) funding announcement resulted in €403,388 awarded to Longford County Council. This will assist in responding to the challenges associated with COVID-19, help aid economic recovery and make places safer to live and work. Projects to be implemented remote working facilities, recreational amenities, including walking and cycling tracks and public works to footpaths, lighting and signage to enhance streetscapes. Projects awarded are as follows:

  • Ardagh: development of remote working facilities in an existing community centre with grant funding of 34,117 approved
  • Ballinalee: enhancement of existing playground by developing an Autism-friendly community park, and a walk and cycleway with grant funding of €97,451 approved
  • Barry: relocation of electricity wires and upgrading to LED lighting to develop the streetscape with grant funding of €100,000 approved
  • Edgeworthstown: development of an outdoor covered performance and meeting space with grant funding of €100,000 approved
  • Lanesborough: enhanced tourism destination road signage and a footpath linking residential areas with the town centre with funding of €71,820 approved 

Town and Village Renewal Scheme Funding 2020

In 2020, Longford County Council was awarded €116,790 under the third round of the TVRS. This includes €40,000 awarded to Longford town for towns with populations over 10,000 not previously funded through the TVRS. This funding was targeted at encouraging socialising and shopping, while adhering to public health guidelines. Projected awarded are as follows:

  • Abbeyshrule, Ardagh, Aughnacliffe, Ballinamuck, Clondra, Drumlish, Keenagh, Legan and Newtownforbes: seating and cycle stands, with €40,000 funding approved
  • Ballinalee: lighting and seating along a newly-developed forest walk, with €25,000 approved funding
  • Longford Town: enhancement of Breadan's Lane, including new lighting to make the area more usable for traders and to increase connectivity, with €40,000 approved funding
  • Newtowncashel: outdoor seating, tables and planting, with €11,790 funding approved

€86,843 under the second round of TVRS 2020:

  • Edgeworthstown: an urban greenway within the town, connecting residential areas with the town and public amenities, with funding of €40,000 approved
  • County Longford's eight broadband connection points (BCPs): fit out of BCPs with funding of €21,843 approved
  • Moydow: upgrade and fit out of Aughakine Community Centre for use as a BCP, with €25,000 funding approved 

Earlier in 2020, €104,040 awarded under the first round

  • Aughnacliffe: construction of footpath linking residential and services areas, with €40,000 funding approved
  • Ballymahon: creation of a covered outdoor event space for outdoor markets and public events, with €25,000 approved funding
  • Lisryan: enhancement to recreation facility to allow year-round use, with €25,000 funding approved
  • Ballymahon, Lanesborough, Granard and Edgeworthstown: develop self-guided walking tour maps and a 'seek and find' challenge highlighting the history of specific features of these towns, with funding of €14,040 approved
