Anti-Litter and Anti-Graffiti Grant Scheme
The Anti-Litter and Anti-Graffiti Grant Scheme funds voluntary initiatives which promote public awareness and education to prevent litter and graffiti. Community groups, environmental groups, schools and young people involved in anti-litter and anti-graffiti actions are encouraged to apply.
How to apply
To apply for funding, complete this Anti-Litter and Anti-Graffiti Grant Scheme 2025 submission form by 5pm on Wednesday, 25 June 2025.
Please be aware:
- Only applications with education and awareness dimensions will be considered for funding.
- If successful, the applicant will be required to submit a brief completion report, including project completion photos and all expenditure receipts by Wednesday, 1 October 2025. If this information is not provided by this date, funding will not be administered to the grantee.

Typically Suitable Projects
- Adopt a road, adopt a bring bank, community clean-ups or similar initiatives, (for example, the planting of a native hedge or bulbs for pollinators to prevent litter and graffiti, adopt a section of road, designated bring banks or housing estates kept litter free by local community groups). Local authorities provide litter pickers, bags, and gloves while the removal of waste is the responsibility of the local authority.
- Projects highlighting responsible dog ownership concerning dog fouling and the dangers it poses to the public, including young children and wheelchair users.
- Plays, puppet shows, interactive workshops, storytelling, talks, and art projects mainly aimed at schools.
- Anti-litter and anti-graffiti awareness competitions, including a design a poster competition (for example, school competitions with the winning designs produced as anti-litter posters or anti-litter calendars, or competition to find a child to present anti-litter awareness programmes on local/regional radio).
- Provision of anti-litter materials (for example, car litter bins, cigarette butt holders, chewing gum wrappers, anti-litter car stickers, and anti-litter stickers for bins).
- Local advertising (for example, cinema advertising, radio advertising, local press, local sports ground advertising, distribution of anti-litter/graffiti leaflets).
Conditions of Funding
- Projects or activities should seek to promote greater public awareness and education concerning litter and/or graffiti, and should, as far as possible, have a particular focus on involving schools and young people and on voluntary initiatives by community and environmental groups.
- Grants should be used, where possible, to leverage local business co-funding of anti-litter and/or anti-graffiti education/awareness measures.
- The maximum grant available in any individual case may be up to 70% of the overall cost of the project, with the balance being met by way of local contribution.
- Grant aid for expenditure on capital items will not be provided. Examples of such are signage, bins, water fountains, machinery hire, lawnmowers, street sweeping equipment etc.
- To qualify for grant payment, projects should have been initiated in 2025.
- Funding must be used for the project submitted and cannot be transferred to another project.
- Payment of a grant will be conditional on proof of expenditure and payment, for example, invoices marked paid/receipts.
- If any applicant is found to have contravened one or more of the above stipulations; that person, group, or organisation, must refund the grant and may lose all current and future rights to apply for funding under the scheme.
