Private House Adaptation Grants
The Grant Schemes which are currently administrated by Longford County Council are as follows;
Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability.
The Housing Adaptation Grant for Disabled People is available to assist in the carrying out of works that are reasonably necessary for the purposes of rendering a house more suitable for the accommodation of a disabled person who is a member of the household. The types of works allowable under the scheme include the provision of access ramps, stair lifts or through floor lifts, downstairs toilet facilities, accessible showers, fixed track hoists (excluding maintenance or training costs), adaptations to facilitate wheelchair access, extensions (typically a bedroom and/or bathroom), any other works that, in the opinion of the local authority, are reasonably necessary for the purposes of rendering a house more suitable for the accommodation of a disabled person The effective maximum grant is €40,000 or 100% of the approved cost of the works as approved by the local authority, whichever is the lesser. The grant is means tests and is based on the combined annual gross income in the previous tax year of both the owner of any property the subject of an application, together with that of his or her spouse.
Mobility Aids Housing Grant
The Mobility Aids Grant Scheme is available to fast track grant aid to cover a basic suite of works to address mobility problems, primarily, but not exclusively, associated with ageing, in order that recipients are not subject to delays in accessing works. grab rails, access ramps, level access showers, fixed track hoists (excluding maintenance and training costs), stair lift and any other minor works in the opinion of the local authority, as may be necessary to facilitate the mobility needs of the applicant. The effective maximum grant under the Mobility Aids Grant Scheme shall be €8,000, which may cover 100% of the cost of work as approved by the local authority. The grant is available to households whose combined annual gross income in the previous tax year of both the owner of any property the subject of an application, together with that of his or her spouse. does not exceed €37,500.
Housing Aid for Older People.
The Scheme of Housing Aid for Older People is available to assist older people living in poor housing conditions to have necessary repairs or improvements carried out. The applicant should be over 66 years of age. The types of works grant aided under the scheme include re-roofing, re-wiring, and the provision of central heating (where none exists).
The effective maximum grant under the Housing Aid for Older People Grant Scheme shall be €10,700 which may cover up to 100% of the cost of work as approved by the local authority, whichever is the lesser. The grant is means tested and available to those with gross annual household incomes of less than €37,500, tapering to 30% for those households with incomes of between €62,501 to €75,000. Note on Insulation.
There is no grant available from Longford County Council for such works. These grants are available from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (Ph: 1850 927 000 or see website www.seai.ie).
