Major Emergency Management

Major emergency management is about ensuring that the necessary planning, preparedness, training and coordination is in place to enable Longford County Council to meet the challenges posed by emergencies.

The Council's proactive approach to major emergency management is based on continual hazard and risk analysis, mitigation, conducting emergency exercises, planning, preparedness and recovery arrangements. This approach also includes both support and consultation between the three principal response agencies: the Fire Service, An Garda Síochána and the National Ambulance Service.

As part of this approach, Longford County Council has prepared a Major Emergency Plan. This sets out the basis for a coordinated response to a major emergency and the different roles and functions to be performed by the various agencies.
