Environment Section Enforcement Policy

The Environment Section Enforcement Policy explains how Longford County Council responds to breaches of environmental legislation and deals with environmental complaints. It outlines the principles that guide the Council's enforcement activities and the range of actions that may be taken to prevent or address environmental offences.

The policy is designed to ensure that enforcement is carried out in a fair, consistent, transparent and proportionate manner. It also provides information on how complaints are assessed, how investigations are conducted, and the circumstances in which formal enforcement measures, including prosecutions, may be pursued.

By setting out a clear and consistent approach, the policy supports the protection of the environment, promotes compliance with environmental legislation, and helps ensure that those responsible for environmental harm are held accountable.
