N63 Athlone Road Active Travel Scheme
Project Description
The proposed development will consist of the following:
- Construction of a footpath and cycle track along the N63 between the Railway bridge at Townparks Industrial Estate and the Royal canal at Cartrongeeragh. The Footpath/ Cycle track will predominantly be segregated with shared sections between the Royal Canal and Clontirm Lane and from the Flancare roundabout to the West Link Business Park.
- The carriageway of the N63 will be realigned and narrowed to facilitate the footpaths and cycle tracks.
- Provision of Raised High Visibility Pedestrian Crossings on all arms of the roundabout on the N63 (commonly referred to as Flancare Roundabout).
- Provision of an Uncontrolled pedestrian / cyclist crossing of the N63, for the Royal Canal Greenway, at Churchland Bridge.
- Provision of raised crossings for pedestrians and cyclists at all accesses and junctions along the N63.
- Minor realignment of all junctions and accesses to facilitate the raised pedestrian and cyclist crossings, including junction tightening measures.
- Provision of a raised High Visibility Pedestrian Crossing of the N63 in the vicinity of Sealtec / Michael Shaw Car Sales.
- Provision of a Raised High Visibility Pedestrian Crossing on Local Road L-30132 (Mastertech Business Park)
- Provision of a pedestrian crossing phase at the traffic signals shuttle system at the Railway overbridge.
- Provision of amended roadside boundaries where required to facilitate the footpath and cycle tracks.
- Relocation of raised display area.
- Associated works such as road resurfacing, public lighting, storm water drainage, road lining.
