What is LEAF


Longford County Council is launching the Local Environmental Action Fund (LEAF) 2026, a community grant programme that supports environmental enhancement, biodiversity and climate action projects across County Longford. The fund is delivered in partnership with IPB Insurance under the theme "Communities Working Together for Climate".
The initiative is led by Longford County Council, IPB Insurance and the CCMA. Funding is available to Tidy Towns groups, Residents' Associations and other PPN-registered community groups, with collaboration encouraged between the groups with schools, sports clubs, Men’s Sheds and other local organisations.
Who Can Apply
The fund is targeted at Tidy Towns groups and voluntary groups undertaking similar environmental enhancement activities. The programme theme, "Communities Working Together for Climate", promotes partnership and community engagement to deliver climate action and environmental improvements at local level.
The fund strongly encourages collaboration with other local stakeholders including schools, sports clubs, youth organisations, men's sheds, women’s sheds and local voluntary organisations.
The fund is open to eligible groups throughout County Longford, registered with the Public Participation Network (PPN).
The fund is open for applications with a closing date of 3pm on July 27, 2026.
Application Process
Grant awards may range from €1,000 up to €25,000 subject to scale of project submitted.
This is 100% funding; there is no match funding required.
Projects must focus on climate action, biodiversity and/or environmental enhancement.
Applications will be evaluated under the following headings:
- Relevance to Climate Action/Biodiversity and or Environmental Enhancement Goals
- Community Engagement and Impact
- Feasibility and Sustainability
- Innovation and Creation
Successful applicants will be notified by Longford County Council.
Please note that all proposed projects must be completed, and final report/photographs/ proof of payment etc are submitted to the Community Climate Action Officer, Longford County Council by November 20, 2026.
