Services in Charge (SIC) request

Section 180 of the Planning and Development Act, 2000 as amended and Section 11 of the Roads Act, 1993 provide the main legal basis for taking in charge.

People buying or selling a property who want to clarify if roadways (including footpaths, laneways, and public lighting and surface water drainage) are under the remit of Longford County Council can apply for a Services in Charge certificate.

Longford County Council can also issue certificates to residents to confirm that the local authority has taken charge of the roads and services within a housing estate.

Applications

Requests for confirmation that roads and services are taken in charge by Longford County Council should be submitted with the following information.

  • Written request.
  • A legible Ordnance Survey or Land Registry Map with the site/ property outlined on the map and the road abutting the property highlighted.
  • Address of property and Eircode.
  • A folio number and, if possible, a planning reference.
  • Payment method (card payment by phone, bank transfer or cheque) and reference.
  • Solicitor should also include their reference.

Fees

  • The fee for processing a Service in Charge certificate is €125.
  • Local Authority Housing sold under the Tenant Purchase Scheme are exempt from the Local Authority fee.

Timelines

Longford County Council will endeavour to process the request for a Services in Charge certificate as soon as possible.  Applicants should allow up to 10 workings days for the certificate to be issued.
