Temporary Road Closure - L-1038 – Esker to Derrynacross

Temporary Closing of Road – Roads Act 1993 (Section 75) Road Regulations 1994 (Section 12)

Longford County Council hereby gives notice that it has made an order to close the following road described hereunder:

Dates:                                 Wednesday 16th July to Wednesday 13th August 2025

Hours of Closure:             9am – 5pm

Roads to be Closed:   L-1038 – Esker to Derrynacross#

Alternative Routes are as follows:   

  • Traffic from Esker to Aughnacliffe should divert to the R-194 and follow R-194 to Ballinalee. In Ballinalee turn left on to L-1056 and then left onto L-5093 Aghnashannagh to Derrynacross.
  • Traffic from Aughnacliff to Esker should turn left onto L-5093 at Derrynacross and proceed to Ballinalee and then via the R194 to Doherty’s cross.

Local access as far as Esker Old Hall bridge will be maintained, but there will be no through access at the bridge for safety reasons.  This road closure is required for essential bridge repair work at Esker Old Hall Bridge.

Traffic Management will be in place for the duration of the works.  In the interest of road safety, you are requested to heed all signs.
