Section 38: Active Travel Scheme - Longford Bus Enhancement Programme (Phase 1)

An Active Travel Scheme under the Bus Stop Enhancement Programme (BSEP) is proposed at various locations in County Longford. 

The proposed scheme will consist of traffic calming and safety improvement measures, including:

  • provision of new bus shelters
  • improvements in accessibility for wheelchair users and individuals with impaired vision
  • installation of new TFI bus poles
  • improved hardstanding areas
  • installation of uncontrolled crossings
  • upgraded road markings to meet minimum accessibility and safety standards.
  • provision of required drainage, access ramps, lighting and all other required works

The works will also include the following in Drumlish:

  • realignment of the junction between Church View Drive L10106-0 and St Mary Street R-198-1381
  • at the junction between Old School Road L-1010-0 and R-198-1381, works will involve making permanent existing bollard junction tightening measures, concrete kerb build-outs and provision of raised priority crossing.

These works will be carried out at the following locations:

  1. Longford Town - Battery Road Garda Station North bound
  2. Longford Town - Battery Road School South bound
  3. Longford Town - Pearse View North bound
  4. Longford Town - Little Angels South bound
  5. Longford Town - Foynes Court North bound
  6. Longford Town - Clonbalt Wood South bound
  7. Drumlish - North bound
  8. Drumlish - South bound
  9. Edgeworthstown - East bound
  10. Edgeworthstown - West bound

Longford County Council, as the relevant roads authority, may in the interest of the safety and convenience of road users, provide traffic calming measures as considered desirable in respect of public roads in the charge of the roads authority. This notice and the proposed works are in compliance with Section 38 Legislative Procedure for Traffic Calming Measures under the Road Traffic Act 1994 (As Amended), based on the nature, size, and location of the proposed scheme.

Alternatively, drawing plans and particulars of the proposed scheme are available for inspection at the Planning counter, Longford County Council, Áras An Chontae, Great Water Street, Longford during its opening hours, which are Monday to Friday from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm, from 11 April to 2 May 2025.

All submissions and observations must be received before 5pm on Friday, 2 May 2025. 

Only those submissions received through the above methods and by the above time and date will be considered and will form part of the Chief Executive's report on the public consultation process.
