ROADS ACT, 1993
TEMPORARY CLOSING OF PUBLIC ROADS
Pursuant to Section 75 of the Roads Act 1993, & Article 12 of the Roads Regulations 1994, notice is hereby given that Westmeath County Council & Longford County Council proposes to temporarily close the following road for the period and reason specified below: -
Road Subject of Proposed Closure
N55 Creggy, Co. Westmeath to Rathmore Co. Longford - from the R390 at Ballykeeran, Co Westmeath to Ballymahon, Co. Longford.
Period of Proposed Closure
Intermittently from 4th August 2026 until 4th September 2026.
The works will be carried out between the hours of 8:00am and 20:00pm Monday to Friday, over a 5-week period during the Temporary Road Closure period and at all other times the road will remain open. Local access for residents and businesses will be maintained.
Reason for Proposed Closure
To facilitate Pavement Management Improvement Roadworks on the N55 between Creggy and Rathmore.
Alternative Routes
Traffic travelling north along the N55 towards Glasson shall divert via the R390 before Ballykeeran to Loughnavalley and then turn left onto the regional road R389 to its junction with the regional road R392 at Skeagh Beg Cross then turn left onto regional road R392 to its junction with the N55 at Ballymahon.
Traffic intending to travel south on the N55 from Ballymahon shall divert via the R392 to Skeagh Beg Cross and then turn right onto regional road R389 to its junction with the R390 at Loughnavalley then turn right onto regional road R390. Traffic shall continue along the R390 and re-join the N55.
Local access arrangements will be in place. All diversions will be signposted.
Any person who wishes to object to the closing of these roads should lodge such objection with the Transportation Section, Westmeath County Council, Arás An Chontae, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath to be received not later than 4pm on Friday July 17th, 2026.
