Legislative Procedure for Traffic Calming Measures under the Road Traffic Act 1994

Under the Road Traffic Act 1994 (As Amended), a road authority may, in the interest of the safety and convenience of road users, provide such traffic calming measures as they consider desirable in respect of public roads in their charge.

Notice is hereby given pursuant to Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994 (As Amended) of the following scheme:

Active Travel Scheme - Scoil Bhríde National School, Killasonna.

The proposed scheme will consist of the creation of a School Zone in the vicinity of Scoil Bhríde National School, Killasonna. This will involve the provision of traffic calming measures to control traffic speeds on the approach routes to the school. The works will include the provision of:

  • Ramps.
  • Surface Colour Changes & Road Markings for enhanced visibility.
  • New signage and the relocation/removal of existing signs.
  • Public Lighting.
  • Re-alignment of the junction of the L1081 and the L5149 with the L1085.
  • All associated site works.

In accordance with Section 38 of the above-mentioned legislation, Longford County Council, as the competent roads authority, has concluded that the above scheme complies with the relevant section of the legislation, based on the nature, size, and location of the proposed scheme.

Submissions and observations in relation to the proposed works may be emailed to activetravel@longfordcoco.ie , up to 5pm on 12 June 2026, and also be made in writing and posted using the following addressed “Submissions, Active Travel Scheme - Scoil Bríde National School,Killasonna and must also be received on or before 5pm on the 12 June 2026.

 

Please make your submission by one of the above methods only.  Only submissions received as set out above will be considered.  Submissions cannot be accepted in any other format or to any other postal address. All submissions received will be considered and will form part of the Chief Executive’s report on the public consultation process.
